Service Project
For my service project, I wanted to focus on plastic reduction in the larger community outside of my home. I started conversations with restaurants in my neighborhood, learning about their use of plastic and biodegradable packaging. I found out that many restaurants in our area are already taking steps to reduce waste. I wanted to learn about what they are already doing and make it easier for other restaurants to do the same.
I will continue to post information about the project over the next few months as I gather more information. Eventually, I hope to create an online resource for restaurants looking for sustainable packaging options. Getting survey data from a wide variety of restaurants will help me understand how restaurants outside my community handle this problem. Please feel free to share this survey with restaurants you know!

Plastic is one part of the larger climate crisis. I am very concerned about saving our natural resources and our planet. Many amazing organizations are working on this. If you would like to make a donation in honor of my Bar Mitzvah, please consider donating to earthjustice.org or oceanconservancy.org.
(Note: Earth Justice allows a donation in someone’s honor, but the Ocean Conservancy does not. If you donate to the Ocean Conservancy, please let us know so we can acknowledge your gift.)
